What does The Ann Watson’s Trust do?
The Trust is required by law to fulfil the requirements of its charitable purpose. This has been updated over the years but is still much the same as Mrs Ann Watson directed in her Will.
The Trust maintains The College in Sutton village, Hull which provides accommodation in eleven individual flats for elderly ladies in need, who are members of the Church of England, with preference being given to widows and unmarried daughters of Church of England clergymen. These days applications are also welcome from older ladies of other Christian denominations.
The Trust can also make grants to non-resident ladies, who are the widows or unmarried daughters of Church of England clergymen and who are in need, on the recommendation of the York Diocese Retirement Officer.
The Trust also supports the advancement of education of young people under 25 years of age, who are resident in Hull or the East Riding of Yorkshire and are either currently attending or have attended a school in the area for at least three years, by awarding grants. Grants may be awarded to:
Parents for the education of a child under age 18
Individual students aged over 18 towards further or higher education, apprenticeships, the performing arts or for once-only expeditions
Churches, schools, other educational organisations and voluntary bodies which have an educational, social or community benefit for activities which are not funded by statutory authorities.
